Position Overview

The Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit online applications to the lecturer pool to be considered for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions. Positions vary and are dependent upon the need for instructors, if any, for courses being offered each semester. These are non-tenure-track members of the faculty whose primary role is instructional.

Application materials will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool for consideration for developing and/or teaching undergraduate or graduate courses consistent with program instructional needs. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.

The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Job Description

100% Lecturer
Teach course in a designated area.
Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute.
Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.
Assist in providing outreach activities.
Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. A minimum of three posted office hours each week is required. These office hours should be divided over at least two and preferably three different days. The lecturer should be available for reasonable appointments if a student cannot meet during scheduled office hours.
Adhere to departmental, College and University policies.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:
MA in Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies or a related field to teach undergraduate-level classes, OR, PhD in a Humanities or Social Sciences discipline with research focus on one or more countries of the region to teach graduate classes.
Native or near-native fluency in a language of the region, at least at the ACTFL superior level
Near-native fluency in English.
Ability to teach effectively at the university level, as demonstrated by previous professional experience and/or professional training.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. or A.B.D in a related field to teach undergraduate classes.
Experience teaching in a US college or university setting.
Evidence or testimony regarding excellent teaching ability at the university level.
Interest and ability to develop advanced-level classes.
Interest and ability to develop a study abroad course in the region.
Interest and experience in on-line instruction.
