MASS ACADEMY OF MATH & SCIENCE
The Academy is seeking a qualified Humanities teacher to join a collaborative team of educators at Mass Academy of Math and Science, a public, state-wide magnet school which enrolls about 100 academically accelerated 11th and 12th graders, emphasizing math and science within a comprehensive, interactive academic program. Classes are project-based and team centered.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- The Academy is seeking a qualified Humanities teacher to become part of the Mass Academy faculty team. The main duties include teaching a Humanities course (studying Western civilization from its origins to the present day by critically analyzing topics in literature, history and philosophy) to all 11th graders, supervising students in the Academy STEM courses (STEM research and engineering), advising seniors in academic areas (including college essay writing), offering extracurricular activities (in areas of interest, preferably mock trial, drama, and/or speech and debate), organizing the annual Day of Diversity, organizing and facilitating the annual Artist in Residence program, developing professional development activities for teachers.
- A Master of Arts degree in English, experience as a writer and/or editor, and at least 5 years experience teaching advanced secondary courses in essay writing and literature-including a focus on the visual arts, music, history, and philosophy as they relate to Western Civilization.
Experience working with high school students, a genuine desire to work with talented young people and the ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment required.
