The Department of Transnational Studies (housing a PhD and MA in American Studies and undergraduate degrees in American Studies, including Native American and Indigenous Studies, and African and African American Studies) is seeking to make an appointment to its faculty at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin in August 2019. We encourage applications from candidates from a wide variety of research specializations in the humanities and social sciences who can contribute to our interdisciplinary unit. The successful candidate will be expected to take the lead in teaching large sections of a number of the department’s general education offerings, especially such courses as "Introduction to African American Studies," "Hip Hop and Social Issues," "Introduction to American Studies," and/or a Social Justice course ideally grounded in the areas of specialization of the department, including African and African American, Native American and Indigenous, and Latinx Studies. The teaching load is 4 courses per year, with the opportunity to teach upper division undergraduate and graduate courses in the department commensurate with qualifications. PhD in hand by August 2019 preferred; ABDs considered.
