Northwestern University’s first international campus, Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q), is searching for one full-time faculty member to join our school’s Liberal Arts Program to teach undergraduate courses in first-year academic writing and English literature.

Candidates must hold a PhD in English (expertise in American literature or world literature in English preferred) and have experience teaching undergraduate courses in first-year writing and English literature. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and pedagogy as well as an active research and publication program. The incumbent would be expected to teach courses in first-year writing, with the opportunity to teach in a literature specialty area.

Our NU-Q program in Liberal Arts, Communication, and Journalism and Strategic Communication work to advance the understanding and practice of freedom of expression. Our goal is to build a Northwestern University legacy of education and discovery in a dynamic area of the world in which science, technology, health care and the information economy are fundamental goals of our host nation, Qatar. Many faculty find this to be a geographic area rich in research opportunities.

The successful candidate will join a culturally diverse community of students, faculty and staff comprised of women and men drawn from Qatar and the Persian Gulf, the Americas, South Asia, Europe, Africa and elsewhere. The successful candidate will join faculty colleagues whose teaching experience includes Northwestern, Stanford, Cambridge, Columbia, Minnesota and other highly ranked schools. Located in Education City in Doha, Qatar, NU-Q collaborates with sister institutions that include Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, Texas A&M, and Virginia Commonwealth. NU-Q occupies a 500,000 square foot building with leading edge teaching, research and media technologies.

NU-Q faculty-in-residence receive a highly competitive salary and package of benefits and overseas allowances as well as generous research and faculty development support. The candidate should be available to begin August 1, 2018. Rank for this non-tenured position is based upon qualifications and experience.

Applications received by December 5, 2017 will receive the highest priority. The search will continue and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
