Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) invites applications for teaching faculty positions at all levels for several openings. We are seeking outstanding candidates to teach undergraduate courses in areas related to: (1) Economics, (2) Psychology, and (3) History and Philosophy of Science as social science electives for the engineering majors.
▶ Economics – to teach Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Industrial Organization, Business Economics, Entrepreneurial Economics, Economic Development of China, Behavioral Economics, and other related courses.
▶ Psychology – to teach Introductory Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology, Motivation, and other related courses.
▶History and Philosophy of Science – to teach Philosophy and Science, Artificial Intelligence and Philosophy of Science, History of Science, and other related courses.
Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) is a new institute formed in cooperation with Sichuan University (SCU) and the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). Located in Chengdu, China, SCUPI is one of the institute-scale, collaborative entities between leading universities in the U.S. and China. The undergraduate program, focusing on advanced sustainable manufacturing, offers three undergraduate majors in Industrial Engineering (IE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). SCUPI admitted its first cohort of freshman in September 2015 and now has about 250 undergraduate students. Within six years, enrollment is projected to reach a steady state of 1600 students with a faculty of approximately 80 members. All courses will be taught in English. SCUPI will have a new building to be constructed on Sichuan University’s international campus in Chengdu, Sichuan. The building will house state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities and provide students with active and innovative learning experience.
Candidates should have experience teaching at the university level and be interested in helping to build and grow a new institution. An earned doctoral degree and native-level English fluency are required. Terms of employment, including salary, relocation, and start-up packages are competitive and on par with those offered by U.S. universities in the United States. SCUPI faculty are employees of Sichuan University and have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues at Sichuan University and the University of Pittsburgh, and with other partnering universities worldwide.
