Auburn University (AL) – TT Assistant Professor 2024 (Department of English)
 
The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for two tenure-track, assistant professor positions in African American literature to begin Fall 2024. One position is dedicated to a specialization in early African American literature; the other is open to any historical period within African American literary studies. The teaching load for research faculty is 2-2, with balanced assignments in upper-division and graduate courses, as well as Auburn’s core curriculum. Successful candidates will contribute to the growth of the Department’s African American literature offerings and will have opportunities to affiliate with interdisciplinary programs like Africana Studies or Women’s & Gender Studies.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications: PhD in English, African American Studies, or related field by August 16, 2024 appointment date, with a specialization in African American literature; a clear agenda for scholarly productivity; and a strong commitment to collegiality, with a willingness to take part in the life and work of a unified department of English Studies (which includes majors/concentrations in creative writing, literature, and writing studies). The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

 

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications: Record of publication in the field; successful experience teaching African American literature at the college level; ability to generate new courses to expand the department’s curricular offerings; demonstrable commitment to teaching, research, and service.
