Teaching Assistant Professor in the First Year Experience and Humanities or Social Sciences (Non-Tenure Stream)

The School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (HASS) at Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking candidates for a full-time, non-tenure-track, dual faculty appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor in the First Year Experience and Humanities or Social Sciences, beginning in fall 2024 for an initial appointment of two years with the potential for renewal. Candidates must hold a Ph. D. in a humanities or social sciences discipline such as history, philosophy, English, comparative literature, African American studies, gender studies or one of the social sciences and must demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting student success.

The successful candidate will possess experience teaching at the undergraduate level in the candidate’s field of expertise and will be responsible for:

  • Teaching courses in their disciplinary or interdisciplinary area of expertise, including courses in the Foundations in Writing and Critical Inquiry program, administered by HASS.
  • Teaching six sections Stevens’s 1-credit First Year Experience course, introducing students to college life and promoting student success, administered by the Office of the Provost and the Division of Student Affairs. The course addresses topics such as personal wellness, inclusion and belonging, career exploration, time management, ethical decision-making, and leadership development.
  • Contributing to the academic enterprise of Stevens and HASS through service to our unit and our students.
