Position overview Position title: Assistant Professor
Salary range: The current salary range for this position is $78,200-$123,400 (9-month academic year salary); however, off-scale salary and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than this range, are offered to meet competitive conditions.

Position description

The Department of Scandinavian at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Norwegian or Swedish Literature, Culture, and Society. The successful applicant will be able to contribute to a model of scholarship that is comparative across the Nordic region. In addition, the department has interest in a candidate with expertise in at least one of the following fields: film and media studies, book history, sociology of literature, environmental humanities, theater history, children's literature, and transnational migration studies.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications
Native or near-native competence in either Norwegian or Swedish and in English; reading competency in the two other Scandinavian languages

Demonstrated expertise in interdisciplinary literary scholarship.

Completion of the Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) by the start date of the position.

Strong demonstrated ability for successful research, teaching, and administrative service.
