The program in African American and Africana Studies (AAAS) at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are inaugurating an interdisciplinary major with a significant new investment by the College of Arts and Sciences, and support from other colleges and programs in the University, and we are recruiting several faculty for this growing program. We are searching broadly for scholars whose research and teaching will complement our faculty, add breadth and richness to our new major, while also contributing to their home department. We also seek specialists whose research (or creative activity) is focused on Africa, African Americans, and/or the African Diaspora, in disciplines that include the arts (including visual arts, performing arts, dance, theater, and music), the humanities (including history and particularly west African history), art history, musicology, performance studies, language and literature, film studies, digital studies, philosophy, and religious studies), the social sciences (including anthropology, sociology, psychology, and geography) and fields of business (including global finance, economics of inequality, management, and marketing). The appointment would be in the home department and home college of the successful candidate, and teaching and service would be allocated between AAAS and that home department. Candidates who have successfully developed curricula for new programs, and who have worked within interdisciplinary contexts, are especially urged to apply.
A Ph.D. or equivalent must have been awarded at the time of appointment. Please submit, along with application:
