The College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking an Assistant Director of Communications. This is a full-time staff position responsible for producing engaging, authentic content in multiple channels promoting the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). A key member of the Communications Team, you will serve as a creative content leader in the college and across campus. Working closely with the Assistant Dean for Marketing and Communications, the Creative Director, Web Developer and Marketing and Communications Coordinator, the ideal candidate will be dedicated to telling great stories, creating flexile content and driving engagement between the college and the audience.
The Assistant Director of Communications works with Dean’s office colleagues and across the College’s departments, programs, centers and institutes to create compelling stories that advance the mission and priorities of the College of Arts and Sciences. This person must be a team player, working closely with the faculty, staff and students, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Duties are, but not limited to:
Compose written content for the College of Arts and Sciences’ websites, social media channels, print collateral and various digital projects.
Generate and develop story ideas, participate in relevant meetings, and develop marketing and communications plans for strategic campaigns.
Collaborate in identifying, creating, and executing engagement opportunities (activities, campaigns, events, etc.)
Cultivate relationships with faculty and staff partners
Develop media strategies for disseminating multi-channel media content, and follow-through with campaign tactics.
Monitor content and project requests for efficacy, and internal assessment of resource utilization.
Manages graduate assistants and assists with management of student assistants and other content developers
Bachelor’s degree required in English, Communication, Marketing, or related major. A degree outside of these areas but with relevant work experience will be considered.
2 years of professional experience as a content creator.
A proven understanding and appreciation of the mission of liberal arts education, and the role of higher education in society.
A demonstrated ability in editorial planning, writing, editing and interviewing skills including the ability to adapt tone and style to different media channels and for different audiences.
Familiarity with web content standards (keywords, navigation, brevity, etc.) and demonstrated aptitude with web and social media technologies
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
Proficiency with in MS Office
Experience with the Adobe Suite, preferred.
3-5 years of professional experience as a content creator preferred.
