The Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences (HPSS) at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in East Asian History, starting Fall, 2019.
Rhode Island School of Design recognizes diversity and inclusivity as fundamental to its learning community and integral to an art and design education. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, scholarship, and/or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
We seek a candidate who can teach ancient and/or modern history courses within their regional specialty, speak to the cross-national dynamics across East Asia, as well as contribute to coverage of global world history. The ideal candidate would be able to offer a range of courses (e.g., History of China, History of East Asia, gender, sexuality, and/or media in East Asia, East Asian philosophy, East Asian environmental history, or political movements in East Asia) that would appeal to an internationally diverse student population of artists and designers and connect with our cross disciplinary departmental concentration tracks (Belief Systems; Environmental Studies; Gender, Sexuality, and Race; Global Processes; Media, Technology, and Cultural Studies; Mind, Self, and Behavior; Politics and Policy; Regional Studies; and Scientific Inquiry).
