Position Overview

The Humanities Program at the University of Kansas invites qualified scholars and professional to submit applications, which will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool, to be considered for part-time to full-time lecturer teaching positions as needed. Applications will be accepted throughout the year. Academic year and/or one semester instructors may be needed to fill vacancies due to emergency situations or due to enrollment needs. Applications will be reviewed and placed in a pool to be considered for teaching positions as needed. The successful applicant must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Job Description

100% – Teach one (1) or two (2) independent sections of 100 or 200 level courses in the Humanities Program in the fall and/or spring semester(s) or other HUM courses as listed in the undergraduate catalog that are offered from time to time in a given academic year. Lecturers in the Humanities Program are required to follow all guidelines in the latest edition of the HUM Instructor’s Manual, a copy of which is on file in the CLAS office and provided to all instructors who teach courses in the Humanities Program. Duties include planning and organizing class meetings; preparation of a course syllabus; instruction; assigning and grading of coursework; administration of the mid-term and final exams; grading exams and other writing assignments; holding 3 office hours per week; turning in final grades.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:

1. A Master’s Degree in a humanities discipline or relevant field of study, and at least one semester of prior college experience teaching in a humanities-area discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior experience teaching courses in the Humanities Program at the University of Kansas
