College of Arts & Sciences-Worldwide
English Faculty Position

The Colleges of Aeronautics, Arts & Sciences, and Business at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide (ERAU-W) announce an exciting new initiative to establish Instructor positions from numerous disciplines in strategic locations for maximizing student impact across the United States. Specifically, ERAU-W actively seeks to improve student academic mentoring opportunities-which are especially vital to ERAU-W’s increasing population of international and first-time-in-college students. A set of resources designed to meet student needs both in and out of the classroom will transform students into future industry leaders representing the world-class education provided by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

As part of this initiative, the College of Arts & Sciences (COAS) seeks highly qualified applicants for a non-tenure-track, full-time Instructor position in English, to be housed within the Department of English, Humanities and Communications. This is primarily a teaching position that also will serve the needs of the department, including curriculum development and mentoring/evaluating adjunct faculty. The successful applicant will work collaboratively across the three Worldwide colleges, with the goals of a) reducing dependence on adjunct faculty for high impact courses, and b) supporting student academic mentoring. This new faculty member will have a reduced teaching load for the purpose of:
conducting student academic mentoring
participating in a core faculty group at one of six physical locations nationally (Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, San Diego, Seattle) that generate large student populations; the core faculty groups will create a vibrant Center of Learning at each of these locations
hosting student activities and alumni events
creating hybrid courses that incorporate intensive face-to-face sessions at each Center of Learning.
The ultimate goal for this strategic hire is to provide a more personalized experience for students, leading to an increase in student affinity with COAS and Embry-Riddle while improving rates of persistence to degree completion. Some travel may be required for student recruitment and retention.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, is a nonprofit, independent institution offering more than 80 baccalaureate, master’s, and Ph.D. degree programs. The Worldwide campus has an enrollment of 23,000 full-time equivalent students, delivering courses globally online via Canvas, synchronously via EagleVision to both homes and classrooms, in blended formats, and face-to-face at over 125 locations in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Embry-Riddle Worldwide earned the #1 ranking in 2017 for Best Online Bachelor’s programs from U.S. News & World Report.

COAS offers four bachelor’s degrees (Communication, Homeland Security, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Emergency Services) and two master’s degrees (Cybersecurity Management & Policy and Human Security & Resilience), with more planned for the near future. Departments in the College are: English, Humanities and Communications; Mathematics, Physical and Life Sciences; Security and Emergency Services; and, Social Sciences and Economics. In addition to degree programs, COAS provides over 2,000 sections of general education courses as part of every degree program at Embry-Riddle Worldwide, with a focus on developing students’ critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, information literacy, communication, scientific literacy, cultural literacy, and lifelong personal growth skills.
