New Mexico Tech invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to begin in August 2019 in the Department of Communication, Liberal Arts, and Social Science. The teaching load is 3-3, primarily in our general education writing sequence (2 first-year composition courses and a required third-year technical writing course) with the possibility of teaching courses in our technical communication program or other departmental offerings depending on the candidate’s secondary interests. Scholarly areas may include technical and scientific communication, visual and digital rhetoric or user design, and writing program administration.

Applicants should have a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Communication, or a closely related field by starting date. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in teaching writing at a STEM institution; significant potential for successful research, publication, and other scholarly/professional activities; commitment and/or experience to service and administrative tasks such as teacher training, writing program administration, and program assessment. Experience working with multilingual students desired. If hired, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to an energetic BS in Technical Communication program and to help develop a related Master’s program.

Communications, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences is a vibrant multidisciplinary department of scholars from Technical Communications, Science & Technology Studies, History, and Composition Studies. In addition to supporting a strong BS program in Technical Communications, department faculty teach general education courses tailored to the needs of the student body and participate in interdisciplinary research efforts.
