Job:	Postdoctoral Fellowship -- Latino Studies University of Florida Center for Latin American Studies Latino Studies: The Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a 9-month Postdoctoral Fellowship in Latino Studies, with a focus in the Social Sciences, to begin in August 2010. Substantive interests may include, but need not be restricted, to: immigration; socio-economic issues affecting Latino communities; Latino politics; comparative approaches to different Latino groups; the ways that Latinos in the U.S. are linked to their countries and communities of origin; and, the integration of Latinos/as in U.S. society. A background and interest in Latin American Studies is a plus. We seek applicants with superior promise who combine rigorous scholarship with excellence in teaching. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries with Faculty and students, in various departments and disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one course per semester, as part of a new interdisciplinary program focusing on Latino/a Studies. Candidates should have their Ph.D.s in hand or near completion at the time of hiring. The stipend will be approximately $45,000. Box 115530 Gainesville, Florida 32611-5530 LATINO/A STUDIES AT THE UF CENTER FOR LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES: The UF Center for Latin American Studies is the oldest and one of the largest Latin American Studies programs in the U.S. Founded as a research institute of Inter-American Affairs in 1930, it has been a Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center in Latin American Studies since 1963 and remains one of the top national recipients of federal funding and Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships. Today, it has over 180 core and affiliate Faculty in some 50 departments and schools. The Center offers a Masters of Arts in Latin American Studies (MALAS), graduate and undergraduate certificates and a minor in Latin American Studies. Students in the MALAS program, a two-year thesis-based degree, may choose among 16 different specializations, including Latino/a Studies. The MALAS specialization in Latino/a Studies draws from diverse disciplines to provide students with an ample view of the history and main social, cultural and intellectual issues that have shaped the different groups that make up the Latino community. Given the special role that Florida plays as a point of contact with Latin America and the important Latino population in the state (21% in 2008), the Center plans to continue building research and curricular strength in Latino/a Studies, in keeping with its mission to advance knowledge about Latin America and the Caribbean and its peoples throughout the Hemisphere and to enhance the scope and quality of research, teaching and outreach in Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies, at the University of Florida.
